OVERVIEW
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. The area provides a wide array of outdoor amenities and activities with miles of hiking and biking trails, national parks, two lakes, and the Sacramento River. The main campus is located in the city of Redding, population 90,000. Position Summary
Shasta College is seeking an innovative, collaborative, and student-centered leader to serve as Dean of Extended Education. This position provides leadership for the College's extended education operations serving Shasta, Tehama, and Trinity Counties and is responsible for advancing educational access, student success, workforce development, and community engagement throughout the region.
The Dean plans, develops, organizes, promotes, coordinates, and monitors the operations of the College's extended education locations and community partnership initiatives. The position provides administrative oversight for student services, instructional coordination, community partnerships, grants, special projects, and facility operations at multiple educational centers and sites. The Dean evaluates, develops, and implements policies, procedures, and operational practices that support student access and institutional effectiveness while ensuring alignment with the College's mission and strategic priorities.
The anchor location for this position will be the Tehama Campus as Shasta College pursues Educational Center status through the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office. The successful candidate will maintain a regular presence throughout the service area, including the Tehama Campus, Downtown Redding Community Leadership Center, Trinity Campus, and Burney Intermountain Campus.

Typical Work Schedule
The Dean is expected to maintain a consistent presence at the College's extended education sites, with a typical weekly schedule including:
  • 1-2 days per week at the Tehama Campus
  • 1-2 days per week at the Downtown Redding Community Leadership Center (CLC)
  • 1 day per week at either the Trinity Campus or Burney Intermountain Campus
  • Additional travel throughout the district and service region as required

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Dean of Extended Education:
  • Provides administrative leadership for the daily operations of all extended education locations.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates programs, services, policies, and procedures that support student access, retention, completion, and workforce readiness.
  • Collaborates with Instructional Deans and academic departments to create, review, modify, and optimize course schedules and instructional offerings at extended education sites.
  • Oversees and directs student services personnel assigned to extended education locations, including Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Counseling, Career Services, and related student support functions.
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality student services and educational opportunities that meet the needs of rural and underserved communities.
  • Serves as the lead administrator for the annual planning process for the Division of Extended Education and Community Partnerships.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative partnerships with K-12 districts, community organizations, government agencies, workforce development partners, businesses, and regional stakeholders.
  • Provides leadership and administrative oversight for numerous grants and regional initiatives operating under the umbrella of North State Together and related partnerships.

  • Assists in identifying, developing, securing, and managing grant-funded opportunities that support student success and regional economic vitality.
  • Supervises, directs, and formally evaluates faculty, classified professionals, managers, and support staff assigned to the division.
  • Develops and administers budgets and ensures responsible stewardship of institutional and grant resources.
  • Collaborates with Campus Safety and College leadership to develop, implement, and maintain emergency operations procedures and continuity plans for extended education locations.
  • Represents the College at local, regional, and statewide meetings, committees, and partnerships.
  • Promotes a culture of innovation, collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement throughout the division.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

CLASSIFICATION: Range 55 on the Administrative Salary Schedule, 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Work assignment hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This an educational administrator position with a default CalSTRS retirement.

SUPERVISOR: Associate Superintendent or designee

Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability


  • Plans, directs, coordinates, supervises, and promotes the activities and operations of extended education locations and the ITV network.
  • Supervises and coordinates extended education instructional programs in the tri-county area; ensures collaboration with campus instructional departments.
  • Supervises and coordinates the daily operations of custodial, maintenance, and grounds services at each Extended Education campus.
  • Coordinates safety and student disciplinary matters at each Extended Education campus, including first-level student hearings.
  • Coordinates assessment, counseling, orientation, and other student service related activities at each Extended Education campus
  • Supervises and coordinates technology related services at each Extended Education location.
  • Develops, coordinates, and administers budget; monitors and controls expenditures; approves facility use requests.
  • Communicates and interprets the curriculum in conjunction with campus instructional departments.
  • Determines staffing needs and makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Develops course schedules.
  • Ensures the provision of appropriate facilities, supplies, and equipment for effective Extended Education operations.
  • Coordinates with instructional deans to recruit and assign part-time faculty to meet the course needs at the Extended Education campuses.
  • Develops and maintains list of qualified and available substitute instructors.
  • Participates in a variety of administrative, board, and other meetings; conducts meetings; organizes, advises, and facilitates appropriate advisory and community committees; prepares and distributes information, agendas, minutes, etc.
  • Travels to Extended Education locations throughout the District.
  • Oversees proper enrollment practices and maintenance of applicable forms at the various sites.
  • Visits and observes classes; supervises activities and resolves problems as needed.
  • Promotes cooperative relationships with community and regional agencies.
  • Directs and supervises the work of others; reviews, approves, and conducts performance appraisals; directs and participates in the selection, training, and development of staff; administers employment contracts; orients and informs staff of District/department policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with, and provides assistance to, instructional deans for the evaluation of part-time faculty teaching at extended education sites.
  • Coordinates with student services programs to ensure district wide support.
  • Oversees planning and coordination of activities and programs related to major initiatives as assigned, such as the Adult Education Block Grant.
  • Assists in the development of partnerships with four-year institutions, in coordination with instructional and student services departments.
  • Performs other related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.

Experience/Education

Education/Experience Required:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution, or the equivalent, and two years formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to assignment.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably at an educational institution
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.
Possession of:
  • A valid California driver's license and evidence of appropriate vehicle insurance, based on DMV regulations.

New Administrative Appointments will be placed at the step 1 on the Administrative Salary Schedule and will graduate to the next step on July 1st of the following year if they have rendered 5 months of satisfactory service, with subsequent steps annually thereafter to a maximum fifth step.

Salary placement would only be negotiable if the candidate held the same position with another community college and step 2 or 3 would be the maximum considered depending on the number of years of service.
