About the Position:
The College of Engineering and Computer Science (ECS) is committed to educating engineers and computer scientists who will graduate with state-of-the art knowledge in their chosen field and are ready to embark on careers in industry and government, or proceed to acquire advanced degrees in their own or related fields. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Retention Specialist, College of Engineering and Computer Science (Student Services Professional II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.
Under the direction of the Assistant Vice President for Academic Advising, and the appropriate College Dean or designee, the Retention Specialist works in support of a strategic retention program to facilitate degree progression and completion. Works as a member of their Student Success Team to provide a web of support services that complement the student experience at the university and in the major from new student orientation to commencement to employment to advanced study while focusing on Student Advising Learning Objectives. Conducts ongoing review of retention data within each specific cohort to identify common trends and errors resulting in failure to progress and provides solution-centered recommendations to decrease the rate of occurrence. Assists their Student Success Team in developing, implementing, and assessing programs designed to increase retention and facilitate progress toward degree and graduation based on students' needs and college/institutional demand. Maintains a database of students supported, challenges experienced, and overall outcomes and presents progress reports as requested to support meetings in the Academic Advising Center, the Associate Vice President for Student Success or designee, and the College Dean or designee. Other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or a related field. A masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience. Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational management, research, and interview techniques. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews, and advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters. Ability to reason logically and use initiative in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements. Ability to plan, develop, coordinate, supervise, and organize programs and activities. Ability to interact with a diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the public. Ability to analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures, activities, and of the overall organization.

Masters degree from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience advising students in a higher education setting. Experience with data collection, maintenance, retrieval, and analysis. Experience with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Experience working with a diverse student, faculty, staff, and community population.
