The MIT Center for Real Estate (CRE) seeks an IT systems administrator to support day-to-day troubleshooting and short-term and long-term projects.

Will work with leadership to identify technology solutions to support business needs and manage the center's computing and technology needs, including infrastructure, hardware, software, help desk, and web development; and work with faculty and staff to identify needs and implement creative solutions.

Required Qualifications:

  • B.A./B.S. in related field
  • Five years' systems administration and/or help desk support experience

  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Initiative

  • Mechanical skills for diagnosing/repairing printers and other devices

  • Experience with web servers and web application frameworks (LAMP, Drupal, etc.)

  • Ability to troubleshoot and write/edit code to accommodate immediate needs

  • Experience with audio-visual systems and their interface with computers

  • Knowledge of the following:



    • Set up/maintenance of Unix/Linux servers with a mix of services (web and application frameworks, database, statistical packages, etc.)

    • Managing accounts, access, security, privacy, integration with IS&T services, TSM backup, etc.
    • Shell scripting for purposes of systems management

    • VMware vSphere
    • VDI technology

    • Networking technology, VLAN, VPN, DNS, etc.

    • AD, Shibboleth/Touchstone, Kerberos, AFS, and building services upon these

    • MacOS and Windows systems administration

    • Shell scripting (bash/zsh/PowerShell)

    • JAMF and MECM administration

    • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisee(s), faculty, and staff

    • Ability to motivate and keep supervisee(s), projects, and deliverables on track

    • Ability to set priorities and work on multiple projects/duties simultaneously, delegating as appropriate
    • Ability to anticipate and respond to client needs




Preferred Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with VMware Horizon and other VMware products, Apache and NGINX, and Drupal and WordPress
  • Familiarity with Oracle, MySQL, and FileMaker
  • Experience with Bash, Perl, Python, and PowerShell
